Dearest Newton,

I hope this letter finds you and Porpentina in the fullest bliss of retirement. How long it’s been since you and I have walked the paths above the castle and watched the Hebridean Blacks soar against the clouds over the Western peaks! These modern years yield far too few days for leisure.

And if only leisure were why I write you now. Alas, to the contrary, I must request your assistance. As you surely know, this will be Silvanus’s final year at Hogwarts, and the search for his replacement is now officially afoot. I request, if you would, your consultation with the head hunt – and, if you would even further, your willingness to hear me out regarding an extended tour of assistance with Silvanus’s remaining duties. The poor man can only do so much with one infected stump.

Could I have the honour of your appearance at my office next Tuesday? If the offer of professional opportunities is not enough, perhaps I can entice you with what appears to be a quite unique creature that I fear is trapped within our sewers. But I daren’t say more for fear that I might be wrong. Do come next week and set things straight.

Yours,
Albus

P.S. Next Tuesday could provide you the opportunity to meet Master Gilderoy, a most charming boy. Have you made his acquaintance? I’d be quite intrigued by your assessment.
