5 June 1992

To Whom It May Concern,

The Daily Prophet, after consultation with our legal team and the editorial board, has unfortunately decided to pull our coverage of law enforcement efforts at Hogwarts School during the 1991-92 school year. New information, only recently gained by the Prophet investigatory team, brings us to the conclusion that reporting on the events of 4 June 1992 goes contrary to our editorial standards.

The Daily Prophet is committed to reporting the truth, no matter how challenging and no matter how inconvenient. Though our investigatory team understands the necessity of secrecy and the protection of privacy, especially with regard to operations involving the exposition and capture of Dark actors, we have determined that the events of 4 June 1992 go beyond our ability to ethically report the truth without the exposure of several high-profile figures and multiple Ministry intelligence operations. It goes against our editorial principles to exclude information deemed pertinent to the public perception of the truth, just as it goes against our ethical policies to report information deemed classified by wizarding governance. For this reason, we have recalled our reporter from Hogwarts School and express our intention to close any stories relating to auror activity at Hogwarts School during the 1991-92 school year.

The Prophet reserves the right to publish any and all information collected by our journalists over the past year; the Prophet additionally reminds Hogwarts School that the journal was uninvolved in the planning or execution of any operations surrounding or otherwise adjacent to the activities of 4 June, and that any statements mentioning the Prophet in conjunction with said activities will be prosecuted as libel within the sphere of the Wizengamot as well as the non-magical common-law court.

We are grateful for the access granted to our journalists by Hogwarts School, and we look forward to further collaboration on future stories.

Sincerely,
Daily Prophet editorial board
