To: Amelia Bones, Department of Magical Law Enforcement
cc. Rufus Scrimgeour, Auror Office
As you are aware, a number of wizarding families will make their way to King’s Cross Station this Sunday to commence their journey to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This annual exercise in wizarding security will this year have the additional challenge of including several high-profile first-year students, including Blaise Zabini, son of X. Zabini, Draco Malfoy, son of L. and N. Malfoy, and, most notably, H.J.P.. Each of these students and their families will create opportunities for press and Ministry intervention. Though Hogwarts School appreciates the intent of these interventions, we do maintain the following:
- We state that no wizarding press be allowed at King’s Cross Station, either at the entrance, at platforms 9 or 10, or Platform 9 3/4. It follows that the same goes for Hogsmeade Station. The privacy and safety of these minors, at this pivotal juncture in their lives, must be protected. This is doubly true in the case of H.J.P., who, as a known target of the nascent ‘Death Eaters’ terrorist group and a participant in various Ministry protection programs, must be insulated from uncontrolled press. Hogwarts requests DMLE enforcement of this prohibition against wizarding press; we are prepared to pursue non-magical legal action against any press that violate the prohibition.
- We state, under Article 17.B (Hogwarts exemption), that no overt DMLE protections be posted at King’s Cross Station, on the Hogwarts Express train, or at Hogsmeade Station. Adequate protections have been provided by Hogwarts staff and alternative Ministry interventions. No aurors, hit wizards, IUMO agents, or any other DMLE staff will be required beyond typical security measures. These interventions have been approved by DoM classification, per Statute 63. For concerns regarding the invocation of these precepts, please contact J. Crane, DoM.
- We state, per request from J. Crane, DoM, that the following have security clearance under 17.B and Statute 63: B. Bode, S. Podmore, G. Lockhart, G. Fawley, and A. Sallow.
Hogwarts School has been compliant with DMLE operations involving Hogwarts students and staff, this year and in years past. We request, out of courtesy, that the DMLE uphold the law which they nominally enforce and respect this invocation of our various rights as an independent wizarding academy.
Sincerely,
Albus Dumbledore
